The type of persuasion used in this advertisement is the effect of arousing fear. In this advertisement, gruesome images are printed on cigarette boxes to deter people from smoking. The pictures paint a very negative consequence of smoking. These visuals would stay in the minds of the public and hence, they would be persuaded to cut down on smoking. Due to fear of what might happen to them in the long run, the pictures achieve its aim of instilling fear in the public to discourage them from smoking.
